Bright eyed and optimistic,
You begin life without a clue.
Without worry or inhibition,
You believe your dreams will come true.
Never doubting or apprehensive,
You'll live a fairy tale life.
But now at 40, with two children,
You think something hasn't gone right.

And these are the shattered dreams of the working class.
Devoid of wealth, the competition'll kick you in the ass.
And these are the shattered dreams of the working class.
A box of memories are the only reminder of a place you can never go back.

Crying in a bathroom with your head between your knees,
You imagine Mother working 60 hours to just meet the family's needs.
And what can you do with a college degree?
Education means nothing when the country is ran by greed.
The top fifth is increasing, while the other four fifths are fucked.
And the government doesn't give a shit because campaigning takes big bucks.

And these are the shattered dreams of the working class,
Devoid of wealth, the grind drains your soul so fast.
And these are the shattered dreams of the working class,
Your parents sobbing behind closed doors, facing their dissappointed past
